The deadline for submissions is August 17th. Please note that all buildings must be located in Macau, as Taipa and Coloane are not part of the itinerary of this first edition. The organization reserves the right not to include suggested buildings. Vetoes will be duly justified by email shortly after the call’s closing.

CURB is sending out a call for great and wholehearted people to get involved with Open House Macau and take active part of making this weekend memorable for all those involved. We have many different opportunities to be a part of something big: donate your time and help bring forth unique architecture and design to everyone!
We expect OHM volunteers to be able to communicate with the visitors about the building/site they’ve been assigned to, as well as to provide general and practical information about the event. Volunteers are true mediators, lying in the hinge and building bridges between those participating at the Festival and the great selection of buildings we’ve picked up for this grand-opening!

What are the Volunteer tasks at OHM?

Guiding visits: leading guided tours to a given building/site, introducing visitors to its history, function and particular architectural features and answering questions at a level for the lay-person.

Visitors management: greeting visitors, managing lines, assisting with crowd control during visits, distributing maps, counting how many people visited the site during the shift, asking to complete feedback surveys, and filling in a report

Welcome desk: answering general questions about Open House Macau and available sites, providing practical information and being able to suggest itineraries according to visitors’ interests, as well as work actively on promoting the event’s social media.

Neighborhood support: serving as runner between different sites within a neighborhood and work closely with Area Coordinators. This may require filling in for volunteers who are no-shows, distributing event guides to site locations throughout the weekend and other necessary support tasks.
If you’re available for a longer period of time, ranging anytime between August and November, your support is kindly accepted at the Festival’s pre-production or post-production stages. Fields available range from production and communication support tasks, distribution, promotion, translations (English to Cantonese), photography, video, etc.
How much time do Volunteers need to commit?
All it takes is a day: volunteers offer a minimum of two shift (8 hours) at OHM sites or home. You can also choose to work multiple shifts in one day or two days. Additional moments of mandatory participation:
- General Meeting: November 2nd (around 3h)
- Initial preparatory visit: November 5th to 9th, exact day TBC (around 2h)
When you are not volunteering, you are encouraged to take part and visit the other OMH sites!
