About
The Leal Senado building was built in 1784 to serve as a city hall, the main public building in the city. With a neoclassical austere architectural composition, it is solidly built in granite. Its street-facing door opens to the main hall, an interior public space that articulates the circulation on the building and the access to the courtyard. On the first floor is located the ceremonial room and library. It was intervened along its history and saw the surroundings densify, but kept its role and central position in the main public space in Macau. It is listed as a monument and part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2005.
