Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home

Located on the hillside, between Camões Garden and Saint Paul’s, it is at the same time close to the city center and disconnected, a suitable location for its intended program. It was purposely conceived as a dignified home for the elderly. Built in 1925 with a project by Eng. Artur Rocha Schiappa Monteiro de Carvalho, it followed healthcare principles, with a functional layout, ample areas of circulation, cross ventilation, gardens around the building, and noble spaces such as the chapel. The main façade follows an eclectic composition with a prominent central volume highlighting the institution. It was renovated and expanded with a project led by Arch. Gustavo da Rosa in 1998, and still serves to this day its original function.
