About

Located on a landfill, Pátio da Claridade consists of a long alleyway that runs perpendicular to the waterfront, connecting the old coastal road to the new one. The 48 buildings that form Pátio da Claridade were managed by STDM as a whole social housing project for the elderly. The north side of the patio consists of a row of double-storey units. The south side of the patio is a row of identical units with two overlapping dwellings occupying the same plot, both with a small courtyard and access ways facing the inner street. On the main street, the first-floor balconies double as a continuous sidewalk canopy alongside a street frontfacing ground floor with mezzanine level. It is a delicate and sophisticated typology, specific to its location and forms the largest homogenous Patio still complete in Macau.
