About

Located on Rua de Silva Mendes no. 1, the Sun Yat Sen Memorial House was formerly the residential house of Sun Yat Sen’s first wife Lu Muzhen and her family. The house, which was rebuilt in 1933, has three-storeys and a continuous wall surrounding the building. The façade of the Memorial House is in Moorish style with pointed arch openings. The exterior wall of the building and pillars on the balcony used shanghai plaster imitating a stone texture. Such approach of using other materials to imitate valuable stones was common for Western buildings in China. On the other hand, the interior design is in Victorian style and it was a popular Western design during the period of the People’s Republic of China establishment.
